Thin shells bonded to the front of the teeth. Placing them requires removing a small amount of enamel, which makes the treatment irreversible — enamel does not grow back. Composite veneers require less or no enamel removal and can often be done in a single appointment.

Any decay or gum disease must be treated first — placing veneers over unhealthy teeth may worsen existing problems. Veneers may chip, crack, wear down or loosen over time. They may not be a good choice if you clench or grind your teeth or have a deep overbite. Because they are cosmetic, they are usually not covered by insurance.
